Scarlett made her way from the city to the nearest train station and along to the rooming house. Hugs and dignified squeals were followed by settling Scarlett into Velma’s room; unpacking cases, a quick bath, ironing holiday wear. Velma’s old favorite gleamed with its own excitement, red and rich gold patterns. Scarlett was excited to show Velma her new dress, made especially for this Thanksgiving in the countryside. After losing her beloved Sherman, she’d needed something cheering. A trip to the country and Velma, new people, a new dress, her favorite holiday. Decidedly cheering! They laughed and agreed to keep Vesta, in her dark solid, between them at dinner. Cheering indeed.
