Raining red petals in the warm fall sunshine. Floating. The smallest toasty breeze, like a hand caressing her cheeks, forearm, stockingless calves. Timelessness. A petal floated down to her shoulder, one to her hair. A smile played across her visage.
She awoke startled, and felt her face flush immediately. That wee nip of sherry had had more effect than she’d anticipated. She’d lost track of the day and quickly drew her forearm across her slack lips and lurched to her feet. Her outfit was a bit twisted, wrinkled, and damp from the deep sleep she’d just shrugged off. She pulled together her letter-writing supplies and hustled back to her room.
